Hi, my name is Dushi-Aruba and I want to tell you about my "rags to riches" story.

My hard life started on April 1st, 2004. That was when I was born and left on the streets struggling to survive. As a street dog in Aruba, you are to fend for yourself, since are overpopulated here on the island with many dogs and cats that we all cannot be saved.
Aruba has many great organizations trying to help the stray population but it is very overwhelming.
After 15 long months of torture hunger pains, I found my new family on July 15, 2005. I woke up on this Friday morning like normal I had hunger pains and I was trying to find some garbage to eat until I spotted this car. The two American girls who hopped out of the car look exhausted but they still gave me attention. Before I knew it, I was getting fed daily and receiving tons of love.
The day I was dreading came when I saw SUITCASES . I was so sad, I ran away for a few hours. My new mom went around looking for me; she must have looked funny screaming "Dushi-Aruba" out of a car window.
To my surprise, they wanted me to go home with them to America. They gave me some funny medicine and promised they would be around when I woke up. When I woke up, I was in New York. I have to say that was the best 5 ½ hours of sleep.
I was soon reunited with the familiar faces of my family.

I will never forget my hometown of Aruba, my heart will always be there, but now I am in America and loving it. I am going to be working hard soon, my mom thinks I will be great as a therapy dog. I am not sure what that means, but hey it sounds good and if I can add a smile to someone's face then I know I did a good job.
Oh and also, my name Dushi means "sweetie" in Papiamento, the language spoken on the one happy island of Aruba.
**I would love to add more doggie friends to my dogster.com page so visit it, my page is called Dushi-Aruba Vokes and become my friend!
